Rasam or Chaaru or Saaru is a South Indian soup.It is eaten with rice or separately as a spicy soup. 
In Tamil language, ‘Rasam’ means ‘juice;. It can refer to any juice but simply rasam commonly referred to the one prepared with Tamarind/Tomato juice with added spices.

To Temper

  • Ghee/ Oil 1 tblsp
  • Mustard 1 tsp
  • Red chili 2
  • Jeera/cumin seeds 1 tsp
  • Curry leaves 1 sprig

Instructions

1)Soak tamarind in hot water for 30 mins and extract its juice and keep aside. or get tarmarind extract from market. 
Step(2)

2)Heat kadai/shallow pan add tomatoes in few drops of oil with a pinch of salt until soft. Add the tamarind extract, turmeric, curry leaves and coriander leaves.








3)Bring to boil and add the rasam powder, salt and sugar.Mix well and just bring to boil.Switch off the flame and transfer to the serving bowl. Garnish with coriander leaves.
